Washington Signals Openness to EU Talks Amid Tariff Dispute

Paris: In an exclusive interview with Euronews programe, U.S. Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston said the United States is still willing to engage in negotiations with the European Union over escalating tariff tensions.

The remarks come as the EU is poised to approve a plan imposing 25% tariffs on a wide range of American products. The move is a direct response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports announced earlier.

Despite mounting uncertainty in global financial markets, President Trump reaffirmed earlier this week that he intends to uphold the tariffs. However, Houston acknowledged the broader implications for international trade, calling the current situation a "significant shift" in global economic relations.

Beyond trade, Houston also emphasized the U.S. commitment to NATO and recognized Greenland's right to self-determination — a remark likely tied to Trump's previously stated interest in purchasing the territory.
